» justkeepswimming - Homesickness

It has been about a month into my year as a college freshman. I have been really homesick ever since I got to campus. I have called my parents and talked to them about it, I have talked to a councler, I have even talked to my coach about the matter. Nothing really seems to help and I dont know what to do. Does anyone have any advice?

I'm so sorry you feel homesick! This is a very common experience... after all, you've never lived away from home before for a long period of time. Here's an article that I hope will help:

Talking to a campus counselor is a very good idea. Homesickness is something they work with all the time, so they should be able to help you! You might need to go more than once, so if the first session or two doesn't seem to help, keep going. A counselor can help you figure out some strategies to help you feel better.

And hang in there! I know a month of feeling homesick may feel like an eternity, but it may take you a semester or more to get over your homesickness. Most students do get over it! Try to make new friends on campus and find fun activities to get involved with (if you're on a sports team, that will help). Good luck to you!
