» suzymae - I have an 18 yr.

I have an 18 yr.old son who is in his first year of college. He just came home for the Thanksgiving holidays and things went fairly well. I do know though that he is making some lifestyle choices that I dont like. It was easy when he was home but now that he is away except for holidays and is very independent the boudaries have become blurred. Does anyone have any advice beyond the, "You may not do those things in my house" advice.

We are in the same boat - an 18 year old daughter who is a college freshman. The thing that I am realizing is that they know by now what the consequences are of their decisions. I do try to remind her that we have home rules that she can decide to NOT abide by once she is out and responsible for herself. The only other thing I try hard to not do is talk to her like she is 10. I even try to use the same tone and verbage I use with my adult friends.
Amazing how differently she responds...
