By creating a plan to pay for college and using some ingenuity and tenacity, students can graduate with no debt!

The quoted college costs vary from source to source. No matter - the conclusion is clear: college costs are on the rise every year- many times surpassing the cost of living increase. More young adults are either graduating with more than $20,000 in debt or have put off college altogether. Even parents who wish to help recognize that putting one child through college can create financial stress for the family. And – trying to put two or more students through college can easily eat through any and all family savings. So – the question is: what’s a person to do? Here are a few ways to help alleviate that burden.

Grant and Scholarship Search

Free money – in the form of scholarships and grants do exist. However, a student does need to do some work and show some determination in order to find them, apply for them and finally succeed!

Government: The government is one of the largest providers of free money for prospective students, but they’re not always easy to find. Doing some internet searches can be a great start, but as everyone knows, many results may be nothing more than scams, so some stick-to-itiveness is required! Other options for finding those government programs include sitting down with the career counselor at school, asking other teachers or friends and pretty much questioning anybody that’s already received a scholarship.

Private Corporations: Many private corporations provide scholarships or grants to full-time students who are family members of employees. Check with your parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles and ask them to check with their Human Resources Department at work for any family tuition payment grants.

Local Resources: Local politicians, businesses and clubs will often-times help pay for college for a number of recent or soon-to-be high school grads. The public library is one good way to find out what local resources might be available. Call the YMCA, local business clubs or successful local businesses and ask if scholarships are available.

Scholarships and grants are not always easy to find, but some determination and effort will go along way and pay off big for most students.

Letting An Employee Pay For College

Many companies nowadays have tuition payment or tuition reimbursement as a benefit for its employees. In fact, although this benefit used to be rather rare for entry level positions, it is becoming more and more common as a way to lure bright, young talent into the fold!

Of course this means that the student will more than likely have to work full time, which means that a college plan may take longer than four years, but as a method to graduating without college debt, it is one of the best ways to go!

Reduce College Costs

If a student knows what he wants to major in, one way to keep costs low is to find those courses he can take in a community or local college. These courses are usually the generic ones – English, Art, History, Science or Math. As long as the credits will transfer to the graduating college, taking these courses at a fraction of the price can substantially reduce the overall cost, while still providing a great education.

Especially with the cost, college seems so overwhelming to high school students. But – with some planning, some effort and lot of determination, the solution to graduating without student loans is possible! Take some time, find all the options available and pursue as many as possible. Students will be surprised at the rewards that will come from this effort.
