Packing smart for Spring Break doesn't just mean having the hottest swimsuit on the beach. Here's a practical guide to things you don't want to forget.

When you think about shopping for Spring Break in a sunny destination, most college students think about the fun stuff, like swimsuits and cute clothes. However, don 't forget to travel smart and bring the necessities you need for your trip. These things are going to cost quite a bit in a tourist destination, so it's a good idea to buy what you need at home and bring it with you.

Here's a practical shopping guide for your Spring Break:

  • Sunblock. When people preach about the dangers of Spring Break, they're usually talking about alcohol and casual sex and such. However, a more "mundane" danger to keep in mind is the sun. Be sure to stock up on sunblock with a high SPF, and apply it frequently, even if it's a cloudy day.
  • Sunglasses. Even if you don't have sun-sensitive eyes, excessive exposure to the sun can do quite a bit of damage. Invest in a decent pair, preferably from a eyeglass professional as opposed to a discount store. Of course, this is a good excuse to spend money on something stylish.
  • A sun hat. A decent hat can help prevent sunburn as well, especially during the sunniest hours of the day.
  • Flip-flops. If you're going to be spending time on the beach, don't forget this inexpensive and basic accessory.
  • A camera-- preferably digital. If you're like most students, you're going to want plenty of pictures to remember your Spring Break (and to post them on Facebook). Even if you own a digital camera, consider stocking up on some inexpensive disposable cameras for your trip. These are easier to carry around, and you don't have to worry about them getting stolen.
  • Medications. Any time you travel, make sure you bring along any prescription and nonprescription medications you need. It's a good idea to bring along the actual bottle with the prescription information on it, just in case someone inspects your bags and wants proof your meds aren't contraband. If you're flying, always keep your medications in your carry-on luggage so the airlines won't have an opportunity to lose them.
  • Money, credit cards, identification, and a secure place to carry them. Consider carrying a money belt. Remember, theft can be a serious problem in Spring Break hot spots.
  • A cell phone.Even if you don't own one, purchase an inexpensive pay-as-you-go phone in case of an emergency. You'll want to be able to contact your friends and people back home, just in case.
