Want to have a great time this Spring Break without going bankrupt? Sick of the whole Cancun scene? Here are some fun things to do.
Okay, so you're sick of traditional Spring Breaks and the whole alcohol scene, and want to stick closer to home. Here are some fun ideas that will make your Spring Break worthwhile.
1. Garden! Spring Break is a great time for planting a few seeds. If you usually live in a dorm, plant something hardy in your off-campus residence, like a small raspberry or lavender bush, that you will be able to enjoy in the summer without tending.
2. Take a spring break from your former life. Take over a shed or abandoned building with a couple of friends and start a temporary hippie commune, or drag along a bunch of guitars, drums, fiddles, flutes and start an impromptu music festival in the middle of a park. Become a street vendor or street musician for a day (licenses run about $20-25) and experience another side of life in your town. Skinny dip in a local pond. Explore hidden parts of your town that people don't usually check out. One of my classmates regularly climbs up pipes to get on the roof of his dorm. Why not camp on top of a building and dance around ecstatically?
3. If you have money, go on a dollar store shopping spree. Buy the oddest things you can find, and make wacky art out of them with your friends.
4. Stage completely crazy plays and performances with your friends, neighbors, family.
5. Go to expensive clothing stores, try on the items, and pretend that you are a fabulously wealthy celebrity.
6. Throw block parties for no reason at all and confetti your whole neighborhood. (Confetti can be found at dollar stores.)
7. Learn something totally wacky that you won't learn in school, like how to ride a unicycle.
8. "Run away from home" and travel somewhere completely random via public transportation. Do the whole tourist thing somewhere un-touristy like a small town. Make sure it's a place you've never heard of.
